I have this thing with W@lls...!

"if you want to start writing a book, do it today. If you want to join a gym or a dance class, do it today.  If you want to start painting again....do it today. Do it this very hour." Is it so weird that I just love painting walls? An empty wall has been my canvas, like forever...!  Only if you give it a thought , after our school days get over, we just stop spending time in doing what we actually love to do...like sketching, painting, joining a classical dance class or even salsa for that matter, or in some case even painting walls! I don't know why but painting walls weirdly inspire me. It is like this target for me that I need to accomplish. Often, we don't finish things that we start. For me it's like ,if I finish painting the wall, I started, I can finish all my unfinished projects! Nevertheless it is a motivation for me to dream things which are bigger and wish to bring them to a conclusion, someday. To start something which is out of my...

The devil need not always wear Prada-the Rage

"The architect was not at all involved. It was a major heart break for me. Nobody around was experienced enough. Whatever little interaction I had with my boss, I couldn't find anything that was brilliant. I was not growing. I wasn't growing at all. I came to a standstill in my career." Now this happened recently after I left my college, soon after my thesis, which was a success, I headed back home. I couldn't stay there for long and the next week I was back to Lucknow to look for a job. After a few days of search and interviews, I realized, Lucknow was not the place for me. If the office was good ,the pay was bad and vice versa- the pay was never good. This blog could be a bit controversial ,so I may change a few facts and also mould a few. The intension is only to state an honest experience. Nothing else. The day of my interview I look back to these 6 months as a dark period. But experience, be it any ,counts. Also, if I may remind you an excer...

Give me Wings!-not everything is on the internet.

I told my Boss's wife ,I want to quit as my thesis is about to start and I need time for preparation for my masters,a very dumb excuse,I know. But,somehow, whatever she said, convinced me not to leave.I was not a quitter. I sat in front of the computer and instead of looking for "interior ideas for bedrooms" I searched for Butterflies! Back in 2013,after coming back from my training in Kolkata, I was keen to join a firm on a part-time basis. But in Lucknow, what I observed and what I felt was unfair and made me upset, was that girls /women were not encouraged to go to site visits of the projects that they were handling.Unlike,my present office, where the second day of my joining I was sent to three site visits of the projects that I was supposed to handle. Anyway, so I joined an Office. Now, After around a little more than two years, I think that was a very good decision, given the training I received, after architecture, in Interior designing ,as well. It was a small fir...

Kolkata.

"Don’t get surprised if next time you travel in Kolkata in a metro, standing with heavy bags somehow holding the suspended hangers and a stranger sitting in front of you in her seat offers her lap for your baggage!" So back in Kolkata I was earning the second least amount in my batch. And the worst part of all? They didn't even pay me my last month’s stipend! A small suggestion to all my juniors out there -whatever it is never feel ashamed of asking what you really deserve. You always get what you ask for!  So it is pretty clear that my office experience in Kolkata wasn’t that good at all. But that never stopped me from exploring this great city. Being an Architect the most important thing you need is INSPIRATION. Never miss a chance to get inspired. But there is a fine line between getting inspired from a building and stealing. Well, we’ll come to that later!  And so I travelled! I travelled every corner of Kolkata. Some places I went with my relatives and to ...

Where it all begins...

My name is Antara, by profession-an architect(with a  licence ;)  ), age-  somewhere in the middle of where everybody wants to write a blog, become pensive and share it with the world, DoB-a cusp-born and a true Arian at heart, this, is my first blog, so please cut me some slack and don’t expect any refined write-ups! I am not a writer nor am I very fond of writing, although, somehow I think writing blogs will keep me inspired and remind me what I want to become and not what I am becoming gradually into, drifting towards the money automated world.   Although I am a bong, I haven’t quite lived in Kolkata for more than 5 months, (for my training, we’ll come to that later),I am a true Kanpuria  at heart ,where I had spent more than a decade of my life,I was born in Chandigarh and spent a few years of my early childhood in Pune. I graduated from Lucknow and currently I am working as an architect in Bengaluru. That pretty much sums up my introduction. This ...
